Golden Valley's Public Works Department is responsible for managing and maintaining the City's infrastructure (streets, sidewalks, trails, parks, and sewer, water, and storm sewer systems), vehicles, buildings; civil engineering and traffic engineering; and recycling and environmental services. Public Works includes Engineering, Street Maintenance, Park Maintenance, Utilities Maintenance, and Vehicle Maintenance, all of which are managed by the public works director. Public works administrative staff also includes a maintenance manager, two administrative assistants, and a half-time receptionist.

Engineering

Engineering is responsible for contract management, design, and oversight of the City’s construction and maintenance projects and City facilities associated with private development; mapping, surveying, and infrastructure management; right-of-way management, including coordination with private utility companies; storm water management; and traffic and transportation engineering. Staff includes a city engineer, project coordinator, two engineering technicians, a public works specialist, and a graduate engineer.

Environmental Services

Environmental Services is responsible for waste and recycling programs, forestry, managing public buildings and contract maintenance, water quality programming, and wetland management.

Park Maintenance

Park Maintenance is responsible for maintaining City parks, including skating rinks and open space (but not including Brookview Golf Course). Staff includes a supervisor, crew leader, and five maintenance workers, and an assistant forester.

Street Maintenance

Street Maintenance is responsible for maintaining City streets, including snow plowing, seal coating, and patching. Staff includes a supervisor, crew leader, and eight maintenance workers.

Utilities Maintenance

Utilities Maintenance is responsible for operating and maintaining the City's utilities, including the water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems. Staff includes a supervisor, crew leader, eight maintenance workers, and an environmental coordinator.

Vehicle Maintenance

Vehicle Maintenance is an internal service department responsible for repair and maintenance of all City vehicles and equipment. Staff includes a supervisor and two mechanics.
