City Government

Golden Valley is a Statutory "Plan B" city, with a part-time Mayor and City Council empowered by law to legislate city-wide policy and a full-time City Manager who serves as chief executive.

The City Council appoints the City Manager, who administers City matters and implements Council policies and directives. The City Manager appoints the City Attorney, who advises and represents the City and Council in all legal affairs. The City Manager also appoints the City's Department Heads and members of the Management Team.

City Council elections are held in November in odd-numbered years. Residents elect a Mayor for a four-year term and four Council members for staggered four-year terms. All Council members serve at large to represent the entire community, so residents may contact any one of them to express concerns and opinions.
