Volunteers Still Needed For Lilac Planting And Valley Volunteer Day Activities
Volunteers are still needed for two Golden Valley events set for Saturday, Sept 28. The sixth annual Lilac Planting Party and the third annual Valley Volunteer Day bring people together to help beautify Golden Valley and share community pride.
The Lilac Planting Party works each year to implement a vision of lilacs, shrubs, and flowers along the sides of Hwy 55 through Golden Valley. This year volunteers will restore lilac beds disturbed by recent construction/rehabilitation of the MCES sanitary sewer system along the north side of Hwy 55 between Douglas Dr and Glenwood Ave.
Volunteers will meet at the Welcome Center, 6681 Country Club Dr (Gurstel Chargo). Registration is 8:30 – 9 am and planting is from 9 am – 1 pm, followed by a celebration lunch until 2 pm. Individuals and groups are welcome; register online.
Valley Volunteer Day is planned and coordinated by a group of volunteers to fulfill needs around the community. Activities this year include:
- buckthorn busting from 9 am – 2 pm at the Golden Valley Historical Society, 6731 Golden Valley Rd
- pumpkin painting from 9 am – 2 pm at Peaceful Valley Montessori Academy, 5530 Golden Valley Rd
