This summer, Hennepin County will be repaving Glenwood Ave (County Rd 40) between Hwys 55 and 100. The project provides an opportunity to make some improvements for motorists and bicyclists. To share more details with those who live and travel in the area, the County and the City of Golden Valley are hosting an open house Monday, Feb 6, 6:30-8 pm, at City Hall, 7800 Golden Valley Rd.
The City’s ice rinks and warming houses will re-open today, Jan 26, at 4 PM. Crews will continue to flood and maintain ice to ensure skaters can enjoy more winter recreation (see rink schedules).
To help plan for a more resilient and sustainable future, the City of Golden Valley developed a survey for residents in a quest to better understand the City’s strengths and weaknesses with respect to environmental, economic, and social stresses. Superhero Date Night is a great opportunity for boys and their mom (or an adult female role model) to spend quality time together. They will gather at Davis Community Center for a Superhero Date Night featuring superpower skill stations, giant inflatable obstacle course, fun games, cool prizes, dinner, and dancing.
Construction of the new Brookview continued despite some extreme weather conditions in December, and the foundations are expected to be completed by the end of January. Then structural steel will be delivered, with exterior wall framing scheduled to begin in February.
Due to unseasonably warm weather, the Winter Family Festival previously scheduled for Friday, Jan 20 will be canceled, and all Golden Valley skating rinks and warming houses will be closed until further notice.
Starting Jan 23, both directions of Hwy 169 between Bren Rd and 7th St (5th St, Lincoln Dr) will be closed as the Nine Mile Creek bridge is replaced. The entrance ramp from westbound I-394 to southbound Hwy 169 will also be closed. Traffic will be reduced to one lane southbound from Excelsior Blvd to 7th St, and northbound from Hwy 62 to Bren Rd. The construction is expected to cause major traffic impacts.

Bring your family and friends to North Wesley Park for sledding, ice skating, hayrides, hot chocolate, and a bonfire with marshmallow roasting Jan 20 at Golden Valley’s Winter Family Festival. The free event will be held from 6-8 pm in the northern area of the park. All ages welcome.
