New Challenge Course And All-Inclusive Play Area To Open Sept 9 At Schaper Park

Minnesota’s first outdoor fitness challenge course is coming to Golden Valley’s Schaper Park, along with a new all-inclusive play structure. The public is invited to celebrate at a grand opening Saturday, Sept 9, 11:30 am-1 pm. Schaper Park is located at 631 Ottawa Ave N, Golden Valley.

The event will include free lunch (hot dogs, chips, cookies and beverages), a sampling of activities from Three Rivers Park District, and opportunities to try the challenge course and accessible play structure.

The new park features are the result of a partnership between the City of Golden Valley, Three Rivers Park District, MN/WI Playground, Paul’s Pals, Golden Valley Rotary Club, and the Golden Valley Community Foundation.

The fitness challenge course includes obstacles that participants navigate over, under, around, and through as they race against the clock. In addition, a permanent “selfie wall” allows participants to take photos of their accomplishment to share on social media. The challenge course is designed for ages 13 and up and promotes wellness, fitness, and health through active recreation for teens and adults.

The all-inclusive play structure is designed to meet the needs of kids and families of all ability levels.

“Partnerships like this one are perfect because they help connect residents of Golden Valley and surrounding communities to the outdoors and encourage active lifestyles,” said Dan Freeman, vice-chair of the Three Rivers Park District Board of Commissioners. “The challenge course is the first of its kind in Minnesota, and the play area makes it possible for families of all ability levels to enjoy the play equipment. I’m really looking forward to celebrating with the community on Sept 9.”

Three Rivers Park District operates the Luce Line Regional Trail, which travels through Schaper Park. The park includes parking and restrooms available for regional trail users, and the new challenge course and play equipment will enhance the trail experience.
