Douglas Drive Access To Close At Hwy 55 Intersection Sept 29, While Golden Valley Rd Intersection Reopens
Starting Friday, Sept 29, Douglas Dr (County Rd 102) access to and from Hwy 55 will close until November as crews will begin reconstructing Douglas Dr between Frontage Rd and Hwy 55, but Golden Valley Rd at Douglas Dr will reopen to traffic.
As demolition day approaches, the old Brookview Community Center is shutting down. All Brookview Golf operations will be moving to the driving range building on Mon, Sept 25. All other Parks and Recreation services will operate out of City Hall until the new Brookview building opens in December.
The rain didn’t keep the celebration at bay as dozens of attendees came out for the Covenant Village of Golden Valley dedication of a brand new Little Free Library at the City’s St Croix Park. The event also doubled as a grand opening for the new St Croix Park playground, which was installed this summer.
As the grand opening of the new Brookview approaches, the City of Golden Valley will hire up to 80 additional employees to help with the Three One Six Bar + Grill, the Backyard indoor playground, the event center, and more. Applications are being accepted now.
Award-winning author Kao Kalia Yang will deliver a reading from her book “The Latehomecomer” this Monday, Sept 18, at Perpich Center for Arts Education starting at 6:30 pm. The event is part of the second annual Golden Valley Reads program.
The Sept 14 Coffee With A Cop, scheduled for 8:30-10 am at Byerly’s, has been canceled to allow Golden Valley police officers to attend the funeral of their fallen colleague from the Wayzata Police Department. It will be rescheduled for a later date.
After 25 years and some 1,300 photo submissions, the Views Of The Valley photo contest is celebrating its quarter-century anniversary by partnering with Golden Valley Arts (GVA) to present “25 Years in the Valley,” a gallery exhibit highlighting 25 contest-winning photos Sat, Sept 16, from 10 am to 9 pm, at the Golden Valley Arts & Music Festival.
Minnesota’s first outdoor fitness challenge course, along with a new all-inclusive play structure, opened Sept 9 at Golden Valley’s Schaper Park, 631 Ottawa Ave N. The challenge course encourages active lifestyles, and the all-inclusive play area makes it possible for families of all ability levels to enjoy the park.
