Golden Valley HRC Sponsors “MLK Day Literary Contest”
To honor the legacy of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, the Golden Valley Human Rights Commission (HRC) is sponsoring a “MLK Day Literary Contest.” Deadline to enter is Dec 20, 2017.
Students in grade 6–12 in Hopkins, Robbinsdale Area, Perpich, and Breck Schools may enter written work (essays, songs, poetry, etc) of 500 words or less on 8-1/2″ x 11″ paper, double spaced. Submissions will be judged on content applicable to the theme “Making Lives Matter.” Building on Dr King’s passion and leadership, students are asked to creatively express how to realize the dream of making lives matter—their own lives and others—and explore innovative choices to positive social change.
Entries must include student name, address, phone, email, grade level; parent name, phone, email; and school name and teacher contact. One entry per student.
Mail entries to Golden Valley Human Rights Commission, 7800 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, MN 55427, or email to Staff Liaison Kirsten Santelices.
Winners will receive tickets to the Jan 15 Minneapolis MLK Day Celebration and will be invited to present their piece at a Jan 14 MLK celebration to be held at Brookview Golden Valley.
