And The ‘Name That Pooch!’ Contest Winner Is…

With nearly 400 write-in votes cast and 271 different name suggestions submitted, the Name that Pooch! contest winner has been decided. As you walk into the new Brookview Golden Valley, you’ll be greeted in the lobby by a bronze statue of a dog named Brooks.

Brookview PoochThe Name that Pooch! contest called on Golden Valley residents to vote online or in person for their pick of what to name Brookview’s official mascot. Votes were collected in December and January and were reviewed by the Open Space and Recreation Commission.

Brooks won with 19 individual votes. Tied for second place, with 11 votes each, were Brookie and Goldie. Other name submissions included Gee Vee, Bassett, and Mr. Mcputt Mutt.

“We’re thrilled to have Brooks staying with us at Brookview,” says Rick Birno, director of parks and recreation. Brooks will be getting a new collar with a name tag on it sometime in the next week, he adds.

The bronze sculpture, entitled “Play With Me,” is by artist Heidi Hoy.
