The aging metal culverts that carry Bassett Creek under 10th Ave and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks are set for replacement starting late this month. The City has scheduled an informational open house Aug 22, from 5 to 7 pm, in the City Hall Council Chambers, to give residents and business owners the opportunity to ask questions regarding the schedule and impacts of the project.
Southbound Winnetka Ave is closed from 10th Ave to Bassett Creek while City crews make emergency repairs to the storm sewer. The segment will remain closed until repairs are completed. Traffic will be detoured west on 10th Ave, south on Wisconsin Ave, and east on Golden Valley Rd (see map).
This past week, crews completed final paving on Douglas Dr (County Rd 102) between Medicine Lake Rd (County Rd 70) and Duluth St (County Rd 66). They will now focus on rebuilding Douglas Dr between Duluth St and Golden Valley Rd, beginning roundabout construction at the Golden Valley Rd intersection, and starting reconstruction between Frontage Rd and Hwy 55.
Crews will be paving the final layer (wear course) on Douglas Dr from Medicine Lake Rd to Duluth St until around 9:30 pm July 28. Lane restrictions are in place and traffic on Douglas Dr will be down to one lane in each direction in areas where paving will occur.
This week, the City of Golden Valley will finish pouring and paving sidewalks along Glenwood Ave (County Rd 40). Pavement and turf restorations along this area will continue through the middle of next week, and paving operations will begin Friday, July 28.
On Fri, July 14, crews will begin milling Douglas Dr intersections at both Medicine Lake Rd (County Rd 70) and Duluth St in preparation for final paving from Medicine Lake Rd to Duluth St, and on Duluth St from Douglas Dr to Adair Ave. Road users will experience short-term lane restrictions when milling operations begin. Work is anticipated to last a day.
Theodore Wirth Parkway will be closed for utility work between Plymouth Ave and Hwy 55 (Olson Memorial Hwy) July 10 and 11. The pathway/trail in that area will also be closed. The contractor will do its best to maintain access to through traffic. The detour will take traffic east on Hwy 55, north on Penn Ave, and west on Plymouth Ave.
Crews are on pace to complete road reconstruction of the Douglas Dr project corridor by the end of November 2017. To continue the progress, the project needed to push forward to the next stage before completing the previous stage. This has meant expanded construction zones and closures, which cause additional delays for motorists.
