The majority of the work is done on the 10th Ave culvert project, and 10th Ave reopened to traffic late last week. Remaining work, including final restoration, tree and shrub planting, and an asphalt mill and overlay with striping, will be done once weather permits in the spring.
For the next week, crews will be paving the final layer of asphalt, or wear course, throughout the Douglas Dr (County Rd 102) corridor. Final paving is one of the last steps of the reconstruction process prior to reopening the roadway.
Over the next six weeks, crews will begin wrapping up construction in key areas of the Douglas Dr (County Rd 102) reconstruction project. Crews will continue to work hard to get Douglas Dr fully reopened between Duluth St (County Rd 66) and Hwy 55. The goal is to have it opened by early December.
Starting Oct 30, Hwy 55 just east of Golden Valley between Van White Memorial Blvd and West Lyndale Ave will be closed for about two weeks to replace a structurally deficient storm sewer. The work also will save time and money later when a METRO Blue Line Extension light rail station is built at the intersection above the sewer’s present location.
Starting Oct 13 through Oct 17, crews on the 10th Ave culvert project will work 14-hour shifts, from approximately 8 am to 9 pm. The extended hours are necessary so crews can replace the culverts underneath the Union Pacific Railroad tracks during a scheduled rail outage planned to allow the work to be completed.
