Adult Broomball League

January through mid-February

Golden Valley's adult co-rec outdoor broomball league games are played Tuesday evenings, with some Sundays, at Hampshire Park. If there is a conflict with Tuesday due to weather or other circumstances, games will be rescheduled for the following Sunday. The first game is scheduled for Tuesday, January 4.

All games are outdoors and officiated by one or two referees. The number of teams in the league will determine the number of games and league format. Teams may advance to the state tournament in late March.

Eligibility/Conduct Verification

To help ensure that only eligible players participate, all team managers must sign and turn in the Eligibility/Conduct Verification Sheet along with a personal check (payable to the City of Golden Valley) or VISA/MasterCard information for the sum of $100.

This $100 will be held and not cashed, and will be returned, providing the team does not use or roster any ineligible player or become involved in unsportsmanlike conduct as defined by the Golden Valley Park & Recreation Department.

  • manager's $100 personal check is deposited
  • player may be suspended for up to one year from all Golden Valley athletic programs beginning when $100 deposit is paid
  • the team will not be allowed to play future games until another $100 deposit is received in the Recreation office

Roster Deadline & Player Eligibility

Rosters must be turned in before the first league game. Any team that does not turn in a roster before the first game will forfeit regardless of the outcome of the game. Roster limit is 16. Additions/changes may be made to team rosters until Jan 14, 2011.

Teams must compete with the same roster in play-offs as used in league play. Players in an eligible league outside of Golden Valley must commit themselves to the Golden Valley league play-off before play-off time. Players found participating in play-offs for a state tournament berth outside of Golden Valley will subject their team to elimination from the play-offs.

Team/Player Eligibility

  • Players must be at least 18 years old or have graduated from high school.
  • To be considered a 100% resident team, all players must live or work full-time in Golden Valley, Crystal, New Hope, Maple Grove, Robbinsdale, Plymouth, or Brooklyn Center.
  • If residence or employment changes after registration, that player must petition the League Director for eligibility.
  • In case of any question of eligibility, the player will be required to present proof of his employment or residence.

Rules of Play

Game Forfeit Fee

If a team cannot play a game and notifies the Park & Recreation office by 4:30 pm the day before that game, it will not be considered a forfeit. Each team will be allowed one forfeited game without penalty.

If a team forfeits a second game, it must submit a $25 forfeit fee to the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Department before the next scheduled game. If the $25 forfeit fee is not received in the Park & Recreation offices by the next scheduled game, the team manager's $100 conduct/eligibility check will be deposited.

Injuries

The Golden Valley Park & Recreation Department is not responsible for injuries sustained to participants. The City of Golden Valley does not carry any medical insurance; players should have family, company, or team insurance.

General Rules: Getting Ready To Play

  • There will be a maximum of six players on the ice (including goalie) per team. Fifty percent of the players on the ice must be female.

  • All team members must wear a jersey of the same color; numbers not required. Individuals who do not have a similar jersey are not allowed to compete in the game.

  • ALL players are required to wear a helmet with a chin strap fastened; those who do not will not participate. ALL goalies must wear a helmet with a mask. Teams that do not have a helmet and mask for the goalie will play five against six with an open net.

  • Once the roster is submitted to the League Director, only those players listed on the roster may play. Should a person play who is not on the roster, the game will be forfeited and the $100 player conduct fee will be cashed.

  • Each team must supply a ball for each game. A team that does not supply a ball will forfeit a goal for each half. Flat balls will not be accepted.

  • NO checking.
  • No player will become involved in unsportsmanlike conduct; should unsportsmanlike conduct occur, the $100 player conduct fee will be cashed.
