Summer Adult Softball Leagues
Golden Valley's summer adult softball program features league play for men (corporate or recreational) and co-rec (11"/12") teams. Games begin the last week of April and go through July. All games are played with a 60-minute time limit at Schaper (6, 7:05, 8:10, and 9:15 pm) and have seven innings. All men’s leagues play two games per evening; co-rec plays single games.

General League Rules and Information
Team Eligibility/Classification
Open Recreational Teams
- All players must be at least 18 years of age by September 1, 2011.
- Part-time or temporary employees are not legal resident players.
- Roster limit is 20.
Corporate Teams
- All players must be full-time year round employees working for the same company, as of June 15, 2011. Full-time implies standard workweek for that industry, plus receiving company benefits. (Part-time or temporary employees are not eligible.)
- All players must be at least 18 years of age by September 1, 2011.
- Once a player leaves the employment of the firm he is representing, he is no longer eligible to play unless petitioned. If there is a temporary lay-off, a player is eligible if he has established seniority.
- Roster limit is 20.
Co-Rec Teams
- All players must be at least 18 years of age by September 1, 2011.
- Roster limit is 26 for league play. (Roster limit for teams advancing to state tournament will be 20.)
- Resident: Anyone who lives or works full time in Golden Valley
- Non-Resident: Anyone who does not live or work full-time in Golden Valley.
Pre-Season Practices
Between April 4-22, one field can be reserved for a one-hour time slot up to one week in advance. Call 763-512-2345 to make a
reservation.
Regional/State Tournament Berths
Teams will pay the $160 berth fee in June if they wish to advance to a Regional/State tournament. Any team that commits to a regional/state tournament berth that fails to field a team at the regional/state tournament site will not be eligible for a regional/state berth the following playing season.
League Regulations
- The USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association) rules and the MRPA (Minnesota Recreation & Park Association) rules will govern all play unless modified by local Golden Valley rules.
- All players must be on the roster in the Golden Valley Recreation office prior to the first game they play. Non-compliance could result in forfeiture of games.
- To be eligible for play-offs or post season play a player must have played in at least four league games.
- Players may play on one corporate team and one recreational team, as well as one co-rec. Players may not play on two recreational or two corporate teams or two Co-Rec teams in the Golden Valley leagues.
Eligibility/Conduct Verification
To help ensure that only eligible players participate, all team managers must sign and turn in the Eligibility/Conduct Verification Sheet along with a personal check (payable to the City of Golden Valley) or VISA/MasterCard information for the sum of $100.
This eligibility/conduct/forfeit check/card will not be cashed unless:
- The team uses or rosters an ineligible player as defined by the Golden Valley Recreation Department.
- $100 personal check is deposited
- Player and manager are suspended from all Golden Valley athletic programs for one year after $100 deposit is paid.
- Team will forfeit the games played prior to date of infraction and if ineligibility is discovered during play-offs, the team shall be removed.
- The team will not be allowed to play future games until a $100 personal check from new manager is received in the Recreation office.
- Any team member, team manager, coach or associate of the team demonstrates unsportsmanlike conduct as defined by the Golden Valley Park & Recreation Department.
- Player shall be immediately ejected from game.
- Manager’s $100 personal check is deposited.
- Player may be suspended for up to one year from all Golden Valley athletic programs beginning when $100 deposit is paid.
- The team will not be allowed to play future games until another $100 deposit is received in the Recreation office.
- Player shall be immediately ejected from game.
- The team forfeits games.
Game Forfeit Fee
If a team cannot play a game and notifies the Park & Recreation office by 4:30 pm the day before that game, it will not be considered a forfeit. Each team will be allowed one forfeited game without penalty.
If a team forfeits a second game, $25 will be automatically taken from the Eligibility/Conduct/Forfeit fee. Teams must replace the $25 forfeit fee to the Golden Valley Park & Recreation Department.
Protests
Teams may initiate protests on violation of eligibility, rules, or regulations. A protest must be filed in writing within 24 hours of the game day. Proof of protest must be furnished by the protesting team.
- Protests on rule interpretation must be lodged at the time the infraction occurs. Both the umpire and other manager should be made aware that the game is under protest and a careful study of circumstances may be made.
- Each protest must be accompanied by a $25 deposit. If the protest is upheld, the $25 will be refunded.
- A Protest Board will act on all protests.
Authority of Umpires
- Assaults and indignities to players or officials will result in ejection from the game, plus a minimum of the next week, and forfeiture of the $100 manager's check.
- Any player fighting or throwing a punch will be ejected from that game, plus a minimum of the next two weeks, and the $100 manager's check will be forfeited. Second offense results in suspension from all Golden Valley leagues for a minimum of one year.
- Umpires have the authority to remove or ban a player and/or manager from the game and the park should the situation warrant it.
- Swearing or cursing can be grounds for ejection from the game or park.
- The team manager will represent and be responsible for all actions of the team he/she represents during or after a game.
Postponement
On days when weather makes play doubtful, call the Activities Cancellation Line at 763-512-2350, after 4 pm concerning cancellations.
- Where playing conditions are questionable, games may be called off at the playing field by the umpire.
- The two team managers may supersede the umpire in the event that weather conditions, field conditions, or ability to see are such that health, safety, and welfare of the participants are threatened. This must be an agreement of both managers.
- If a game has been postponed, it will be rescheduled if possible.
- If an official umpire fails to show up, managers should mutually agree on an umpire and play the game. Please notify the Recreation office the next day of this situation and the game result.
Injuries
The Golden Valley Park & Recreation Department is not responsible for injuries sustained to participants. The City of Golden Valley does not carry any medical insurance; players should have family, company, or team insurance.
Alcoholic Beverages & Smoking Prohibited
The City of Golden Valley has ordinances prohibiting any consumption of alcohol and prohibiting smoking in all Golden Valley parks.
2012 League Registration
To register, you must complete all of the following:
- Fill in the Team Registration Form completely.
- Submit cash, check, VISA or MasterCard for the league fee, payable to the City of Golden Valley.
- Manager is to fill in the Eligibility/Conduct/Forfeit Form completely.
- Manager submits a separate personal check or Visa/Mastercard for $100 for Eligibility/Conduct/Forfeit, payable to the City of Golden Valley.
- Submit team roster.
Bring or mail all of the above to the Park & Recreation office at Brookview Community Center, 200 Brookview Parkway, Golden Valley, 55426.

Schedules and Team Packets
All managers will be notified when schedules & team packets are ready for pick-up at the Brookview Community Center.
