Art, Music & Dance

Golden Tones Chorus

Thursdays (Sept through May), 10:30 am
Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Rd

Directed by Flo Carroll, members of the Golden Tones Chorus enjoy singing together and entertaining each month on Thursday afternoons for local senior centers, care centers, civic organizations, and churches. The Chorus was organized in 1977. Call the Golden Valley Seniors Office or come join us for practice.

Open Painting

Mondays, December through April, 9:30–11:30 am

Looking for a creative outlet? Learn to paint pictures in oil or watercolors. Students need to bring all supplies.

Square Dancing

Thursdays, 12:30 - 2:30 pm
Hopkins Activity Center, 33 14th Ave N, Hopkins

Square dance caller leads each class. This is mainstream dancing with a few plus-level dances included. Sponsored by Hopkins Activity Center. For information, call 763-939-1333. $5/week (payable at the door)

Arm Chair Travelers

3rd Thursday, 2 pm

Explore new lands without leaving the comfort of your neighborhood. New travelers welcome! Refreshments will be served. Register at least one day in advance by calling the Golden Valley Seniors Office. Free.

Coffee Talk

4th Wednesday, 9:45 am

Join us on the fourth Wednesday of the month for juice, sweet rolls, donuts, informative programs and, of course, coffee! Call the Seniors Office to register two days in advance. $2 (payable at door)

Defensive Driving

Four-Hour Refresher Course: 2nd Thursday, 9 am–1 pm

If you have taken the 8-hour course, save up to 10 percent discount for 3-years on car insurance premiums and become a better driver by taking a state-approved National Safety Council Defensive Driving 4-hour refresher course. No tests are given but attendance is required to receive the certificate of completion. $16

Money Matters

3rd Thursday, 10–11 am

Finances and investments are of more interest than ever with rising consumer costs. Hear speakers from companies dealing with finances and investments present information for today’s investor. Free.

Seniors in Mind

Minnesota History Center lecture. Bring a snack or have lunch at the museum's Café Minnesota following the lecture. This event is offered through Five Cities Transportation. Call 763-531-1259 for more information or to register. Special destination fare applies.

Fitness

Aqua Exercise

@ Brooklyn Center Community Center

A fun, healthy class for men and women 62 years old or older. Participants do not need to know how to swim or put their face in the water. Your physician's name and phone number must be given when registering. For more information, call 763-569-3400.

Local Motion

Put on your walking shoes and “do the local motion with me.” We’ll be walking the Twin Cities hot spots. Join us! This event is offered through Five Cities Transportation. Call 763-531-1259 for more information or to register.

Pedal Pushers Bicycle Group

April–October

To register for each ride, call the Seniors Office. In case of bad weather, call 763-512-2350 to check if the ride has been cancelled. Bike helmets required.

Blood Pressure Screenings

4th Wednesday, 11–11:30 am

This FREE service is provided by the Ambassador Good Samaritan Home Health Nurses. Bring your card to be updated.

Happy Feet Foot Care Clinic

3rd Tuesday, 9 am–1 pm

The foot care clinic is conducted by licensed nurses specialized in routine foot care for elder and diabetic feet. A foot soak and massage are provided with each visit. Call Happy Feet at 763-560-5136 to schedule your half-hour appointment. $30

Living Wise & Well

1st Thursday, 1 pm

It’s a fact—people are living longer, healthier lives. This program offers information for a happy, healthier you. Free.

Insurance Help

2nd Tuesday, by appointment at 9, 10, or 11 am

It is very important to review your medical insurance information each year. Even if you are satisfied with your current plan, you should check if there is another plan in your area that offers better coverage at a lower price. Meet with a trained volunteer counselor who will help sort out health insurance and Medicare forms, file insurance claims, and obtain information about Medicare supplemental or long-term care insurance policies. Remember When?

We all have special memories and we usually start by saying “Remember when?...” Let’s go back and enjoy that time in our life with our friends. No need to register, just come and enjoy!

Brunch Bunch

Volunteering

Mondays with Mary

Mondays, 9:30 am

Join Mary to make door decorations, greeting cards, party favors, stuff envelopes for City Hall, and more. Work on projects for Ambassador Care Center, Dinner At Your Door, Senior Dining, Golden Valley Seniors, and Mary Wanderers. We’ll supply the materials and coffee—you bring your time and talent. “The more the Mary-ier!”
