Youth Athletic Associations & Leagues

The following leagues provide competitive sports play for youth in Golden Valley. Some are offered by associations that operate independently from the City's Park and Recreation Department. They set their own practices, schedules, and registration procedures.

Armstrong Youth Hockey Association Ages 5–14

For information, contact Matt Deterding at 763-557-5809 or mite.coordinator@armstronghockey.com or visit www.armstronghockey.com.

Emphasis is on safety, fun, skills, and being competitive. Traveling teams are members of the Junior or Senior Girls Suburban Softball League. Teams also participate in weekend tournaments and end-of-the-season tournaments. This is excellent preparation for high school fastpitch. Open to all residents of District 281. Teams conform to the American Softball Association (ASA) age groups. For more information, go to www.cooperarmstrongfastpitch.org.

Golden Valley Girls Slowpitch Softball Girls, grades 3–12

Late April through mid-July

The Golden Valley Girls Softball League (GVGS) is designed to be a fun slowpitch league of about 18 regular season games (usually two per week) and two tournaments. The focus is on skills, fundamentals, and fun; the philosophy is everyone plays. Staffed by volunteer parents (coaches are especially needed).

Although participants are typically from communities in the Hopkins or Robbinsdale School Districts, all games are played on Golden Valley diamonds in cooperation with local Park & Recreation officials. For more information, visit www.gvgs.org.
