Reimagining Public Safety Program: Reducing Harm Through Through Collaborative Solutions

In 2021, the City of Golden Valley received a $250,000 Pohlad Foundation public safety grant that will provide financial infrastructure to City initiatives, including creation of the Golden Valley Police Employment, Accountability, and Community Engagement (PEACE) Commission and an equity audit of Police Department policies and practices.

Grant funds support four interdepartmental goals:

  • Identify community and develop partnerships through engagement and healing.
  • Conduct a policy audit with coordinating recommendations to develop a more diverse workforce and equitable practices as a law enforcement agency.
  • Train officers to enhance understanding of and develop tools against systemic racism.
  • Create an interactive data dashboard for community use.

City staff will collaborate across departments to engage in learning and professional development and facilitate community engagement through the PEACE Commission, community events, and other activities. This work supports the City Equity Plan’s key pillars of effective and inclusive community engagement and unbiased programs and services.
