City Council Vacancy
According to Article VII, Section 6, of the Constitution of the State of Minnesota, candidates for public office must:
- be an eligible voter in Minnesota
- be 21 years old upon assuming office
- have resided in the district 30 days previous to the application
April 18
City Council approves resolution declaring vacancy.
April 19
Application period opens at 8 am.
May 5
For in-person submissions, applications must be received by 4:30 pm Friday, May 5.
May 7
For emailed submissions, applications must be received by 11:59 pm Sunday, May 7.
May 8–16
City Council reviews applications.
May 17–18
Staff notifies candidates selected for interviews.
May 19 at 8 am
City Council holds special meeting to interview finalists and adopt a resolution appointing a new Council Member.
May 22–June 5
New Council Member attends orientation and onboarding to prepare for first meeting and remainder of the term.
June 6
New Council Member takes oath of office and is sworn in.
The Council has scheduled a special meeting to interview applicants on Friday, May 19 beginning at 8 am in the Council Conference Room on the 2nd floor of Golden Valley City Hall.
