Golden Valley police detectives have been working to solve a number of carjackings that occurred in Golden Valley in May and June. Two teens were arrested and charged in the most recent carjacking on June 13, 2022, and several person(s) of interests have been identified involving the earlier carjackings.
In the June 13 incident, two teenage girls were pumping gas around 8:37 pm at the Speedway off Douglas Dr N in Golden Valley when they were carjacked by two teenage boys, one of whom had a gun. Within two hours, the stolen 2018 Lexus RX was found in Bloomington with assistance from Bloomington Police and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. A 15-year-old white male from Buffalo was arrested and has since been charged with felony first-degree aggravated robbery. The next day, a 15-year-old white male from Eden Prairie turned himself in to the Golden Valley Police Department. He has been charged with first degree aggravated robbery (felony, aid/abet).
The other carjackings occurred at around 11:15 pm May 16 at Breck Ice Arena, 4210 Olson Memorial Hwy; 9:20 pm May 19 in the 500 block of Utah Ave S; 12:15 am May 25 at an apartment in the 600 block of Lilac Dr N; and 2 pm June 1 at Theodore Wirth Golf Club, 1300 block of Theodore Wirth Parkway.
In those incidents, Golden Valley detectives worked with surrounding agencies to recover all of the stolen vehicles, along with some additional physical evidence, says Golden Valley Police Director Virgil Green. That evidence has been submitted for DNA forensic analysis, and once it has been returned, detectives will forward the information to prosecutors. He adds that these carjackings were not connected to the June 13 carjacking.
“We want to continue to remind citizens, don’t become so comfortable and let your guard down,” says Green. “Be aware of your surroundings and follow the important safety tips we have previously shared.”
