As crews work to install and upgrade pedestrian flashers on Winnetka Ave at Western Ave and Harold Ave, the Golden Valley Police Department (GVPD) advises drivers to watch their speed and use caution when driving through construction zones.
This week Golden Valley Police Chief Virgil Green noticed cars driving well above the speed limit, creating a safety risk for workers and pedestrians.
"The GVPD takes the issue of speeding, especially through construction work zones, very seriously," said Green. "Officers will continue to monitor and give citations to reckless drivers both in and out of work zones."
The first phase of the pedestrian flasher project, which includes installing new pole bases, electrical, curb and gutter, median refuge, and pedestrian ramps, is expected to be completed by Sept 23, 2022. The final phase, which includes installing signal arms, is expected to be completed in late 2022 or early 2023.
