Residents may vote by absentee ballot for any election. Absentee ballots will be available 45 days prior to the election.

Absentee Voting At City Hall

You may vote by absentee ballot at City Hall (2nd floor, 7800 Golden Valley Rd) beginning Sept 18. City Hall is open Mon-Fri, 8 am-4:30 pm..

Closer to election days, City Hall will be open extended hours for direct ballot absentee voting (sometimes called "early voting").

Applying To Vote Absentee

To receive an absentee ballot, you'll need to complete an absentee ballot application. Once your completed and signed application is received, your absentee ballot will be mailed to you with instructions. There are several ways to apply for an absentee ballot:

  • Online at mnvotes.sos.state.mn.us
  • In Person at City Hall during normal business hours or extended absentee voting hours (see below)
  • Drive-Thru Drop-Off at 625 4th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55427
    • Simply drive up to the designated location, park, and elections staff will meet you at your vehicle. They'll ask you a few questions and place your ballot in a secure drop box. Mon–Fri, 8 am–4:30 pm.
  • By Mail, Fax, or Email -- Download the Absentee ballot application and send the completed form to:

Military & Overseas Voters

You can track your absentee ballot using the Absentee Ballot Status Lookup feature on the Minnesota Secretary of State website.
