New Recycling Pick-Up Schedules Mailed Week Of Nov 14

Golden Valley curbside recycling households received mailers the week of Nov 14 with specific information about the new City recycling program that will begin Jan 1, 2012. The mailers include details about pick-up schedules and procedures for the new program as outlined by Allied Waste, which will take over as the City’s curbside recycling hauler Jan 1.
After Jan 1, recycling pick-up will change from every Friday to every other Friday, with approximately one-half of the City serviced one week and the other half serviced on the alternating week. The Allied Waste mailers provide residents with information about their specific recycling weeks.
The change in schedule is part of an overall updated recycling program for Golden Valley that will feature wheeled carts instead of bins, the collection of additional recyclables with no sorting required, and the every-other-Friday service. Convenience and potential cost savings are the driving factors behind the change, as well as fewer truck runs reducing wear and tear on the City’s streets.
Until Jan 1, curbside customers will continue to separate their recyclables as usual and set them out in the current bins every Friday. While the new carts will arrive mid-December, residents will need to use their old bins until Jan. 1.
