City Council Convenes Human Rights Commission Task Force
July 11, 2012
The Golden Valley City Council appointed a 19-person public task force June 19, 2012, to begin community dialogue to assess the need for and scope of a Human Rights Commission as an advisory board to the Council. Meetings are open to the public and will be held Aug 9, 20, and 29, 6–9 pm, in the City Hall Council Chambers. Additional meetings will be scheduled if necessary.
The mission of the Human Rights Commission Task Force is to:
- review duties and responsibilities of the Minnesota State and City of Golden Valley Human Rights Commissions and their histories
- recommend the best way(s) to foster inclusiveness and cultural awareness for the City of Golden Valley and whether or not the best way(s) involve a City Human Rights Commission
- establish the Commission’s mission and responsibilities and how it should be organized (eg, as a Commission or informally, with interested volunteers coordinating events and activities), if it is recommended that a City Human Rights Commission is needed
The City Council asked the Task Force to complete its charge before Oct 31, 2012.
