Golden Valley Announces Winners For 2013 Photo Contest

A beetle invasion took the top spot in Golden Valley’s 21st annual Views of the Valley photo contest, leading a picturesque pack of seven winners selected from more than 60 entries.

Sarah O’Rourke grabbed first place in the Natural Golden Valley category as well as grand prize for “Raspberry Invader,” a colorful close-up of a beetle on a berry. Stan Waldhauser took first place in the Enhanced category for his picture of a fun-filled snowy day, “Togetherness,” and in Lifestyle for his photo of hidden architectural beauty, “Arches.” Gretchen Mathiason’s photo “Young and Free” nabbed the People’s Choice award, and Jason Boudreau-Landis, Sarah Carlson, and Sonia Moharnmadzadah each received honorable mentions. (See photos below.)

This year’s judges were Stefanie Briggs, Golden Valley Patch.com editor; Jerry Beck, City of New Hope communications coordinator; Nicole Pribbenow, City of St Louis Park communications specialist; and Wendy Maybury, professional photographer.
