The New Wildwood Park Is Open For Play

Today’s grand opening of Wildwood Park’s new playground featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony by officials from the City of Golden Valley, Hennepin County, and the Robbinsdale School District 281/SEA School, after which the SEA School kids enjoyed their first recess with the new playground equipment.

DSC_0076The playground project was a true community partnership among Golden Valley, the SEA School, and Hennepin County, says Rick Birno, City parks and recreation director.

Kids from the SEA School and residents from the Wildwood Park neighborhood helped decide on the new playground design features. The SEA school committed $15,000 to the $100,000 project. The City of Golden Valley received an additional $50,000 from the Hennepin Youth Sports Grant Program, without which the project would likely not have moved forward, says Birno.

DSC_0142Birno also acknowledged the contributions of a team of community volunteers who work ed over the weekend of May 17 to install the new playground equipment before school closed for the season.

Four other Golden Valley playgrounds will get new playground equipment this summer. Brookview Park’s grand opening was scheduled for earlier this week, but due to the excessive rain, installation will be completed sometime in June. Watch the City website for the new grand opening date. Grand openings are scheduled for June 9 at Lions Park, July 14 at Gearty Park, and Aug 11 at Glenview Park.
