To support their residents in the military and their families at home, the Cities of Golden Valley, Crystal, New Hope, and Robbinsdale will officially become Yellow Ribbon Communities at a proclamation ceremony Sunday, June 15, 10:30 am, at the Crystal Airport (5800 Crystal Airport Road, Crystal, MN). The ceremony will take place as part of the regularly scheduled Crystal Airport Open House and Fly-in beginning at 9 am.

In case of rain, event will be held at the Crystal VFW Post 494, 5222 56th Ave N (Bass Lake Rd), Crystal, MN.

In early 2013, the four cities agreed to pool their resources to be designated Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Quad Cities. Since then, volunteers have been working to develop a sustainable action plan demonstrating commitment to Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, a comprehensive program that creates awareness for the purpose of connecting military service members and their families with community support, training, services, and resources.

On June 15, Quad Cities will join nearly 200 Minnesota cities, counties, and businesses already proclaimed Beyond the Yellow Ribbon. The proclamation ceremony will feature Colonel James T. Johnson as keynote speaker and Congressmen Keith Ellison as guest speaker. Johnson is the commander of the 133rd Airlift Wing, Minnesota Air National Guard, St Paul, Minnesota. Ellison has represented the Fifth Congressional District of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives since taking office in January 2007. The Fifth Congressional District includes the City of Minneapolis and the surrounding suburbs.

The Beyond the Yellow Ribbon website and Facebook page have more information for those who want to get involved in the program.
