Mighty Tidy Day Rescheduled To Oct 11

Because of a conflict with a religious holiday, Golden Valley’s annual Mighty Tidy Clean-Up Day has been rescheduled from Oct 4 to Saturday, Oct 11, 8 am – 1 pm, at Brookview Park. It will feature areas for dumping junk shredding documents and  as well as donation stations for Bridging and PRISM. Brookview Park is just south of Hwy 55 at Winnetka Ave. Enter from Winnetka Ave. You must be a Golden Valley resident to participate (proof of residency is required at the entrance) and fees apply (cash and checks only).

Mighty Tidy Clean-Up Day provides a monitored site to dispose of items residents no longer use, that cannot be donated, and that can litter homes and yards and become a nuisance. It’s just the place to unload unwanted items like old mattresses and sofas, broken bicycles, ancient appliances, old tires, outdated computers, televisions, paper, and other items piling up around your home (check here for fees).

Hazardous wastes of any kind are not accepted. For information about how to dispose of hazardous wastes, check the recycling information on Hennepin County’s website .

The event will also include free paper shredding as well as an opportunity to donate furniture, textiles, and food items to local non-profits.

Donation Station

Mighty Tidy Day also offers options to donate to two local charities:

  • Bridging is accepting gently used bedroom, living room, and dining room furniture and household goods such as kitchenware, linens, bedding, lamps, small appliances, etc. Bridging is a non-profit organization that provides people transitioning out of homelessness and poverty with a one-time gift of quality goods to stabilize and improve lives while effectively using community resources.
  • PRISM is accepting gently used clothing and shoes, textiles for recycling, and non-perishable food items. PRISM is a community-funded social service agency that provides families in need with food, financial assistance, transportation, and other services in times of financial hardship.

Volunteers Needed

If you’re interested in helping, the City needs volunteers at the Mighty Tidy Day Donation Lot to unload and load furniture, food, and household goods for Bridging and PRISM. Volunteers are needed between 8 am and 1 pm. You can work the entire time or in 2-½-hour shifts from 8-10:30 am or 10:30 am-1 pm.

To sign up, complete the online one-time volunteer application. For more information contact Volunteer Coordinator Sandy Werts at 763-512-2341.
