Sign Up Now For The 7th Annual Lilac Party

For six years citizen volunteers have come together to plant and maintain lilacs in the right-of-way of Hwy 55 through Golden Valley. The seventh annual Lilac Party will Saturday, Sept 27, 8:30 am to 1 pm. The City is looking for anyone 16 or older who wants to help with the grassroots beautification project.

Volunteers can register starting at 8:30 am in the parking lot of 6681 Country Club Drive (Gurstel Chargo) in Golden Valley. The beautification activities will take place from 9 am to 1 pm on the north side of Hwy 55 near the ramp to northbound Hwy 169. The event will conclude with a celebration lunch from 1 to 2 pm back at the registration location.

Check out the landscaping planted in the first four years, from Hwy 169 east to Douglas Dr, and resolve to be part of this year’s event. Come on your own, or gather a group from your neighborhood, church, business, or club to form a team, then see the fruits of your labor beautifying the community for years to come.

Register online or with Sandy Werts at 763-512-2314 or swerts@goldenvalleymn.gov. Volunteers will need to bring gloves and a shovel.

The Lilac Project is a collaboration between Bridge Builders, the City of Golden Valley, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Community Roadside Landscaping Partnership Program. Bridge Builders is a community organization that gives individuals and groups a way to connect with others who share similar interests and then mobilize them to engage in beneficiary projects.
