CenterPoint Energy Will Start Winnetka Ave Pipeline Replacement Project Sept 25

A CenterPoint Energy utility reconstruction project is scheduled to start Thursday, Sept 25 in Golden Valley along Winnetka Ave between Harold Ave and Golden Valley Rd. The three- to six-week project will have a significant impact on traffic due to lane shifts and closures, but full access will be maintained to all businesses and residents. Detours will be set up to encourage through-traffic to use Wisconsin Ave or Rhode Island Ave for Hwy 55 access (get detour maps).

In addition, for three to four days southbound Winnetka Ave will be closed entirely between Western Ave and Hwy 55. The exact date of this closure is yet to be determined, but signage will be placed on Winnetka Ave before the closure, and detours will direct traffic to use General Mills Blvd or Glenwood/Jersey Ave for access (get detour maps).

The Winnetka project includes replacement of a 1,200-foot stretch of 24-inch high-pressure steel distribution pipe with new 24-inch steel pipe. It is part of CenterPoint Energy’s multi-year project to replace approximately 61 miles of the Belt Line, a large diameter steel natural gas pipeline. Rehabilitation of the Belt Line is important to ensure the long-term reliability and continued safety of the pipeline infrastructure that serves hundreds of thousands of customers in the metro area.

Construction on the Winnetka pipeline replacement project is expected to be completed by early November 2014.
