Winnetka Ave Between Hwy 55 And Western Ave To Close Sept 29

Beginning Monday, Sept 29, southbound Winnetka Ave will be closed between Hwy 55 and Western Ave to allow Michels Corporation to install a new CenterPoint Energy high pressure gas transmission line. The road is anticipated to reopen in four to six weeks. Two separate detours will be provided on Glenwood Ave and General Mills Blvd. During a limited number of city events at Brookview Park (Mighty Tidy Day, Fall Leaf Drop-Off), a southbound lane will be reopened temporarily.

This CenterPoint Energy utility reconstruction project project will have a significant impact on traffic due to lane shifts and closures along Winnetka Ave between Harold Ave and Golden Valley Rd, but full access will be maintained to all businesses and residents. Detours will be set up north of Hwy 55 to encourage through-traffic to use Wisconsin Ave or Rhode Island Ave for Hwy 55 access.

The project includes replacement of a 1,200-foot stretch of 24-inch high-pressure steel distribution pipe with new 24-inch steel pipe. It is part of CenterPoint Energy’s multi-year project to replace approximately 61 miles of the Belt Line, a large diameter steel natural gas pipeline. Rehabilitation of the Belt Line is important to ensure the long-term reliability and continued safety of the pipeline infrastructure that serves hundreds of thousands of customers in the metro area.

Construction on the Winnetka pipeline replacement project is expected to be completed by early November 2014.
