Cities Host March 7 Open House On Proposed Freight Rail Connection

The Cities of Crystal, Robbinsdale, and Golden Valley are hosting an open house Saturday, March 7, 9 am-noon, to provide information about a proposed freight rail connection in Crystal from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railway to the Canadian Pacific (CP) railway. The open house will be at the Crystal Community Center, 4800 Douglas Dr N.

BNSF has said the connection in Crystal would allow CP freight trains to go south on the BNSF line through Robbinsdale, Golden Valley, Theodore Wirth Park, and Minneapolis.

During the open house, staff from the three cities will be available to explain display boards and answer questions one-on-one. At 11 am, local and state elected officials will make a presentation about the issue.

Because railroads are federally regulated, city staff members will also provide tools to help residents and businesses communicate their concerns to their federal representatives and the Surface Transportation Board in Washington, DC.

More information about the proposed BNSF/CP freight rail connection, including links to print and broadcast media stories, is available on the City of Crystal website.
