Douglas Drive Utility Work To Begin Late This Week
April 28, 2015
In preparation for the upcoming Douglas Drive reconstruction project, CenterPoint Energy will be replacing its gas transmission lines along the length of corridor, from Hwy 55 to Medicine Lake Rd. Work will begin toward the end of the week of April 27 and will last through July.
The majority of work will take place in the boulevard outside of the roadway. However, there will be instances where impacts to traffic are unavoidable. As these occur, advanced notification will be provided to the public. CenterPoint Energy’s Douglas Drive project website will provide updates and contact information for project representatives. Additional information regarding the project will be distributed as it is available.
The other major utility companies (Xcel, Comcast, CenturyLink, Zayo) will also be performing work on their systems within the Douglas Drive corridor this upcoming summer. More detailed information will be provided as it is available.
The joint Golden Valley/Hennepin County will reconstruct Douglas Drive between Hwy 55 and Medicine Lake Rd to improve driver and pedestrian safety as well as traffic efficiency. The project will add turn lanes, allow for shoulders and bike lanes, improve sidewalks, install street lights, and place existing above-ground utilities underground. While utility work begins in April 2015, other construction won’t begin until 2016.
