Two big construction projects may cause traffic delays this summer, and motorists should be aware and prepared to take alternate routes as needed. Currently, westbound Golden Valley Rd is closed both west and east of Douglas Dr, and Douglas Dr will be closed between Golden Valley Rd and Phoenix St the weekend of June 6-7. Starting the first week of June, expect numerous lane shifts and closures at Winnetka Ave and Hwy 55.

The Golden Valley Fire Department (GVFD) accepted a $5,000 grant from CITA Insurance Services and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company in a brief ceremony May 20 at Golden Valley Fire Station 1. The grant funds the purchase of four Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and two training AEDs.

Westbound Golden Valley Rd will be closed just west of Douglas Dr beginning Tuesday, May 19, as part of CenterPoint Energy’s gas main replacement segment of the Douglas Drive Reconstruction Project. Please follow the posted detour.

Each year, lack of seat belt use is a contributing factor in about half of all motorists killed on Minnesota roads. As Minnesotans plan their Memorial Day weekend fun, more than 300 law enforcement agencies will be participating in the statewide Click It or Ticket campaign, increasing patrols May 18–31 to help reinforce the message that seat belts save lives.

At its May 5 meeting, the Golden Valley City Council directed staff to hire the architecture firm Hammel, Green & Abrahamson (HGA) and begin the process to replace Brookview Community Center. Next steps include a pre-design phase and public input process to appropriately size the conceptual design to align with City Council direction.

Brookview Golf Course has already announced two new activities for summer–FlingGolf and Golf Bikes–but it’s a recently added third activity that will satisfy the number one request of golfers at Brookview. That’s right, the Driving Range is now a full range with no club restrictions. Bring on the big sticks!

Due to a forecast for heavy rain during the time of tonight’s Bike Rodeo, the event will be modified and held indoors at Crystal Community Center from 6-7:30 pm. There will be no bike safety course, but there will still be helmet checks, helmets for sale, food provided by the Golden Valley VFW, bike safety checks, a prize drawing at 7 pm, and other activities.

Kids ages 12 and under are encouraged to bring their bikes out May 6 for a night of fun and learning at the annual Bike Rodeo, 6 to 8 pm, at the Crystal Community Center, 4800 Douglas Dr N, Crystal.
