With the recent snowfall, Brookview Golf Course winter trails are now open for business, finally, with trails for fat tire biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skijouring, and winter walking. On weekends, warm up inside or around the outdoor fire pit and enjoy a variety of food and beverage offerings. Rest rooms and locker rooms will also be available.

The Golden Valley Fire Family, made up of family members of Golden Valley firefighters, completed its second year spreading good cheer by supporting the Be A Santa To A Senior program. The project involves collecting donated gifts from drop-off areas, storing them until delivery day, then delivering them to seniors at local care centers.

The City of Golden Valley announced last week that Golden Valley Police Chief Stacy Carlson will retire Dec 31, 2015 and will be succeeded by current Police Commander Jason Sturgis, who will take the helm Jan 1, 2016.
Golden Valley Sets Feb 2 Open House And Public Hearing To Consider Municipal Consent For Light Rail Line

The City of Golden Valley will hold an open house and public hearing Tuesday, Feb 2 to review the $1.5 billion proposal for the planned METRO Blue Line Extension LRT project. The open house will be from from 6-7 pm at City Hall, followed by a public hearing at 7 pm. The City Council will then officially vote on municipal consent Tuesday, Feb 16.

The season got brighter for adults and kids alike Dec 15 as a group of Golden Valley police officers and staff took 13 local kids on a shopping spree so they could buy Christmas gifts for their family members.

When the Hennepin County Library – Golden Valley re-opens Jan 23 after a four-month renovation project, there will be a new program for the community to enjoy in addition to the new spaces in the building. “Golden Valley Reads,” a joint venture between the City of Golden Valley and Hennepin County Library – Golden Valley, seeks to encourage Golden Valley residents to read one book together each year.

At its Dec 9 meeting, the Metropolitan Council voted to approve an updated project scope and $1.496 billion cost estimate for the planned METRO Blue Line Extension LRT Project. The project, which now includes 11 stations, was recommended for approval at November’s Corridor Management Committee (CMC) meeting.

Glenwood Ave will be closed to through traffic Thursday, Dec 17 between Xenia Ave and Jersey Ave to accommodate the cranes used for work on the Canadian Pacific Railroad bridge. A posted detour will route traffic to Laurel Ave for the day.
