Met Council Approves Updated METRO Blue Line Plans; Next Step Is Municipal Consent

At its Dec 9 meeting, the Metropolitan Council voted to approve an updated project scope and $1.496 billion cost estimate for the planned METRO Blue Line Extension LRT Project. The project, which now includes 11 stations, was recommended for approval at November’s Corridor Management Committee (CMC) meeting.

The Council voted to:

  • approve the revised project scope and cost estimate of $1.496 billion as recommended by the Blue Line Extension Corridor Management Committee at its Nov 12, 2015 meeting
  • direct staff to prepare Blue Line Extension Municipal Consent Plans consistent with the project revised scope and submit to Hennepin County and the Cities of Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Robbinsdale, Golden Valley, and Minneapolis
  • authorize scheduling and conducting a joint public hearing Jan 19, 2016 with the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority, Hennepin County, and the Metropolitan Council on the revised plans

Public Hearing

The Metropolitan Council (Council), Hennepin County Board of Commissioners and the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority (HCRRA) will hold a joint public hearing at 6 pm Tuesday, Jan 19, 2016, on the physical design component of the preliminary design plans for the METRO Blue Line Extension (Bottineau Light Rail Transit) Project as part of the municipal consent process set forth in Minnesota Statutes section 473.3994. The scheduled hearing will take place at the Minneapolis Central Library, Pohlad Hall, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55401.

An open house will be held before the public hearing beginning at 5 p.m. All interested persons are encouraged to attend the public hearing and offer comments. Upon request, the Council will provide reasonable accommodations (ie, sign language, an interpreter, or assisted hearing equipment) to persons with disabilities.
