Skating Season 2015-2016: Yet Another Waiting Game

While Brookview finally got the snow needed to open its winter trails, the City’s skating rinks are still waiting for that week-long cold snap needed to establish good base ice.

Temperatures need to remain around zero to -10 F for a week or so to produce enough ice to skate on. Ideally, city crews need three or four inches of frozen ground to start making ice. The goal is to establish a six-inch base, which will help rinks survive most warm snaps without closing down.

The weather forecast for the coming weekend has low temperatures at around 15 degrees and daytime highs around 25.

Crews are working to get the City’s skating rinks in shape despite the unseasonable weather and inconsistent conditions for ice making. Thanks for your patience.
