Plastic Bags No Longer Accepted For Curbside Recycling

The City’s curbside recycling provider requests that residents stop putting plastic bags in their recycling bins. The bags have been breaking down and backing up the sorting machines. Republic Services will be looking for solutions to the problem, but for now, you can drop off plastic bags at one of several participating locations, which include Target, Walmart, and Lowe’s, for proper recycling.

Republic Services will continue to accept most recyclable items, as long as they’re not contained within plastic bags. Pick-up is every other Friday for curbside customers.

On collection day, have your recycling cart at the curb by 6:30 am (late set-outs do not qualify as missed pick-ups). Make sure cart handles and wheels face away from the street and that carts are placed 3–5 feet away from other objects (trash containers, mail boxes, cars, trees, bushes, etc).

For more information about the recycling program, call City recycling official Tom Hoffman at 763-593-8044.
