Site work had begun for the Brookview Park Gazebo, which will be the new home for Concerts In The Park and several other summer events and gatherings.

Golden Valley Public Works staff begin site work for the new Brookview Park Gazebo.

The grand opening will be celebrated July 11 at 7 pm along with Golden Valley’s eighth annual Ice Cream Social, which will feature the First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band and free Sebastian Joe’s ice cream.

Located at the southwest corner of Brookview Park facing toward Hwy 55, the all-steel hexagon structure will be 34 feet across with multiple entryways, a forest green roof, and almond-colored poles.

In addition to Concerts In The Park, the gazebo will also be available for wedding ceremonies, Movies In The Park, picnics, and other outdoor events, as well as non-scheduled gatherings.

Such a facility has been a longtime goal for the community, says Rick Birno, director of parks and recreation.

“We’ve been working with the City’s Open Space and Recreation Commission on the

concept to meet that goal,” he adds. “Audiences will have a nice level view and wide green space for watching the shows.”
