Golden Valley Enters Marketing Partnership With Discover St Louis Park

Golden Valley will soon benefit from the marketing clout of Discover St Louis Park (DSLP). Under a new partnership between the City of Golden Valley, DSLP, and the City of St Louis Park, DSLP will broaden its focus to include and promote the assets of Golden Valley. The agreement gives DSLP the opportunity to encourage an even wider audience to visit, enjoy, and stay in both communities.
In the last five years, DSLP’s efforts have garnered more than $6 million in direct economic impact to St Louis Park.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the City of Golden Valley,” says Tim Cruikshank, City manager. “We are pleased to be able to work with the City of St Louis Park and Discover St Louis Park to promote our amenity-rich area. We look forward to a bright future together.”
“Golden Valley approached us because the City realized there was an opportunity to contribute to and benefit from something already established and working,” says Becky Bakken, president/CEO of DSLP. “Now, Golden Valley will get the chance to share in that success.”
The agreement will cost the residents and businesses in Golden Valley and St Louis Park absolutely nothing. DSLP’s efforts in Golden Valley will be funded the same way they are in St Louis Park, by a 3 percent lodging tax collected by the hotels. This tax will take effect in Golden Valley Jan 1, 2017. Golden Valley’s contributions will be an estimated 20 percent of DSLP’s overall budget.
With both cities are comfortably close to Minneapolis, all parties involved felt the agreement was a natural fit. Each community has its own unique set of assets that complements the other.
“Our goal is to make the same kind of impact in Golden Valley as we have in St Louis Park,” says Bakken.
As a component of the agreement, Golden Valley businesses will be included on DSLP’s website and visitor guides at no charge. This will allow DSLP to provide area visitors with the precise accommodations they need.
“We are constantly fielding calls from people looking for places to meet, host events, or stay,” Bakken says. “This partnership means we will have even more to offer.”
