Golden Valley Police And Firefighters Rescue Child From Burning Vehicle

Golden Valley Police and Firefighters rescued a child from a burning vehicle Oct 11, around 8:31 pm, after a motor vehicle crash on 3800 block of Golden Valley Road.

Upon arrival at the scene, responders located the vehicle on its side down a steep embankment in Bassett Creek and fully engulfed in flames. As they approached the vehicle they could hear a child crying from inside. The flames were contained enough for fire and police personnel to break the rear window, pull the child from his car seat, and safely remove him from the vehicle. The driver was located outside of the vehicle on the ground.

The 22-year-old driver was transported to North Memorial Medical Center with serious injuries, and the 23-month-old child was also transported with no visible injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol may be a factor. The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Golden Valley Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol. Assistance at the scene was provided by the Golden Valley Fire Department, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, and West Metro Fire.
