Citizen’s Academy Offers Behind-The-Scenes Look At Policing
December 30, 2016
Why do cops do what they do? Go behind the scenes at the Golden Valley Police Department (GVPD) during the 2017 Citizen’s Police Academy, which runs every Tuesday for eight weeks starting Jan 17. Classes are held from 6-9 pm in the GVPD at 7800 Golden Valley Rd.
The Citizen’s Police Academy will cover a variety of topics, including 911 dispatch, SWAT, patrol operations, investigations, crime lab, crime analysis, and much more. It is one of several courses offered by the City’s GVPD University, which provides ongoing safety education series for citizens. The goal is to enhance the community’s knowledge of day-to-day operations and safety issues while learning what is important to the community. Long story short, we communicate, we learn, and we better our community.
Space is limited, so apply early. Because of the sensitive nature of police work, a brief background check will be conducted to ensure that applicants meet eligibility requirements (you must live or work in Golden Valley, be 21 years of age, and have no felony convictions or misdemeanor arrests in the past three years). The Chief of Police may approve any waiver of these requirements.
