Reconstruction On Douglas Dr To Resume March 27
March 24, 2017
Starting Monday, March 27, crews will resume reconstruction work on Douglas Dr (County Rd 102). Information about this year’s construction work and schedules will be provided at an open house Tuesday, March 28, 5:30 – 7 pm, Golden Valley City Hall, 7800 Golden Valley Road. There will be no formal presentation — stop in at any time.
This year, the work focuses on segments between Duluth St (County Rd 66) and Hwy 55. There will also be work on eastbound Duluth St between Douglas Dr and Adair Ave. More details and staging plans are available on the project website at www.hennepin.us/douglasdrive.
Like last year, the work will be extensive. After crews remove pavement, they will replace pipes for water, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer to meet the latest environmental and health safety standards. They will also bury overhead wires and remove old underground gas lines. When dirt is back in place, they will rebuild curbs and gutters. New sidewalks and trails designed to better address community needs will be finished. Then pavement will be added. The goal is to have the project completed by the end of this year.
Managing all these components takes a great deal of coordination. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the work proceeds.
Traffic Changes Along Douglas Dr
Douglas Dr will be closed to through traffic between St Croix Ave and Golden Valley Rd when reconstruction work resumes March 27. Through traffic can use the signed detour that follows Hwy 55, Hwy 100, and Duluth St.
However, Douglas Dr will remain open for local access during this project. This means you will still be able to travel to get to your home, employer, favorite business, and residences in the construction area, but be prepared for changes in pavement surfaces (eg, gravel) and traffic configurations.
Traffic Shift Coming Up On Duluth St
Eastbound lanes of Duluth St from Douglas Dr to Adair Ave will be closed for reconstruction. All traffic will be moved to westbound lanes, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction.
Access to businesses along the corridor will be open. The reduction is expected to last until the summer.
It is important to obey the speed limits and stay alert in this area, including during the evenings and weekends. Traffic changes, construction crews, equipment, and work areas near the roadway can create unexpected situations.
