Douglas Dr Now Open North Of Duluth St
Striping on Douglas Dr (County Rd 102) between Medicine Lake Rd (County Rd 70) and Duluth St (County Rd 66) has been completed, bringing to a close all the major activities for this segment of road. The new roadway features:
- stronger, smoother road surfaces
- sidewalks, bicycle, and pedestrian trails along both sides of Douglas Dr and Duluth St
- new roundabout at Sandburg Rd
- new traffic signals featuring improved timing technologies and accessible crosswalk signal buttons to accommodate pedestrians with disabilities
- improved streetscapes with new street lights and landscaping
As other segments of road are completed in the fall, you will see similar features throughout the new and improved Douglas Dr.
Duluth St To Golden Valley Rd
Concrete work began Monday, Aug 14 on both sides of Douglas Dr between the Canadian Pacific railroad crossing and Phoenix St. Crews will pour new curbs and gutters will be poured first, then return to pour driveway aprons. Residents and visitors in the area should expect delays when entering and exiting driveways. Concrete work is expected to last up to 10 days, weather permitting.
Paving between Duluth St and the Canadian Pacific railroad crossing is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug 17 and is expected to be completed by the end of the day, weather permitting. Residents and businesses in the area should be aware that this work will be noisy and there will be vibrations. Paving is loud and involves a lot of trucks hauling paving material in and out of the area. The vibrating roller used to smooth out and compact the pavement often shakes the ground.
During this work, local traffic can continue to use the road; however, expect traffic configuration changes. It may take longer to travel through the area.
For everyone’s safety, please slow down and exercise caution where crews are working.
Frontage Rd To Hwy 55
Crews are removing pavement along southbound lanes to begin storm sewer work between Frontage Rd and Hwy 55. Storm sewer work is expected to last a few weeks, followed by road grading. Please allow for extra time to travel through the area.
As a result of this work, traffic is reduced to a single lane in each direction between Frontage Rd and Hwy 55. Vehicles, including large semi-truck trailers, will continue to have access to Frontage Rd to get to Zane Ave or Lilac Dr. This new lane configuration is expected to be in place until the Golden Valley Rd intersection is completed in early to mid-September. At that time, Douglas Dr between Frontage Rd and Hwy 55 will close to all traffic.
Country Club Dr
Crews are reconstructing the intersection of Country Club Dr and Douglas Dr and at the right turn access point from Hwy 55. When complete, Country Club Dr will end at a cul-de-sac, and there will be enter and exit lanes for westbound Hwy 55. As a result of this work, access points along the east end of Country Club Dr are closed until construction is completed.
For local residents and businesses in the immediate area, please use the marked detour taking Hwy 55, Rhode Island Ave, and Country Club Dr. Construction of the new access points is expected to complete and reopen in late September, weather permitting.
Work Zone Road Conditions
Please remember, throughout the work zone crews have removed pavement and are working with dirt. This means the roads will be more challenging to drive through. While we continue to try to keep things drivable, weather – especially heavy rains – can create challenges. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. If you have questions or concerns regarding the road conditions, please contact the project hotline at 612-543-3485.
Getting Around And Staying Safe
You can still travel around this area, including to get to local businesses. It’s important to follow speed limits and signs, and stay alert, including during evenings and weekends. Traffic changes, construction crews, equipment, and work areas near the roadway will require extra attention from road users.
The official detour for through traffic uses Duluth St (County Rd 66), Hwy 100, and Hwy 55. There are alternative routes for local traffic, including Winnetka Ave (County Rd 156), Medicine Lake Rd (County Rd 70), and the completed segments of Douglas Dr.
