Paving To Begin Aug 28 On Douglas Dr Between Duluth St And Golden Valley Rd

Weather permitting, work on Douglas Dr (County Road 102) is moving forward the week of Aug 28 as crews begin driveway and paving operations.

Duluth St To Golden Valley Rd

Starting Monday, Aug 28, crews will begin pouring residential driveway aprons. As a result, residents and visitors should expect delays when exiting and entering driveways to apartments, condominiums, and homes.

Access will be maintained for local traffic in the immediate area. All side street entrances along Douglas Dr will remain open during this time. Signage will be provided to guide road users to their destinations.

Starting Wednesday, Aug 30, crews will pave the first two layers of asphalt. Work will occur between 7 am and 8 pm and is expected to take two days to complete, weather permitting.

During paving operations, local traffic will experience delays, lane configuration changes, and intermittent closures. Access to driveway and side street entrances will close for up to 20 minutes as asphalt is paved and compacted with a roller along the entrances. For everyone’s safety, please slow down where crews are working.

Residents and businesses in the area should also be aware that this work will be noisy and there will be vibrations. Paving is loud and involves a lot of truck operations. The vibrating roller used to smooth out and compact the pavement often shakes the ground.

From 7 am Sept 11 to 7 pm Sept 15, Douglas Dr will be closed to through traffic while crews reconstruct the Canadian Pacific Railroad crossing.

Golden Valley Rd To Frontage Rd

Over the next few weeks, crews will grade the soil and pour curbs, gutters, and medians to shape the new roundabout at the Douglas Dr/Golden Valley Rd intersection.

Golden Valley Rd will reopen the east and west traffic movements before Frontage Rd is closed for construction. The projected opening date is mid-September, and a more defined opening date will be determined after Labor Day weekend. The north and south movements at Golden Valley Rd and Douglas Dr intersection will remain closed to allow crews to wrap up streetscaping and final landscaping activities.

The CenterPoint Energy and Tennant facilities will always have access to their driveways on Douglas Dr. The new Tennant entrance on Golden Valley Rd will open the same time as the Golden Valley Rd east to west traffic movement. The CenterPoint Energy driveway on Golden Valley Rd will remain open.

Frontage Road To Hwy 55

During the next few weeks crews will replace underground storm sewers, construct a cul-de-sac on Country Club Dr to close off the Douglas Dr intersection, and construct right-turn-in and right-turn-out at Hwy 55 and Country Club Dr. Work is expected to be finished in mid-September, and a more defined opening date will follow after Labor Day weekend.

Work Zone Road Conditions

Please remember, throughout the work zone crews have removed pavement and are working with dirt. This means the roads will be more challenging to drive through. While we continue to try to keep things drivable, weather – especially heavy rains – can create challenges. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. If you have questions or concerns regarding the road conditions, please contact the project hotline at 612-543-3485.

Getting Around And Staying Safe

You can still travel around this area, including to get to local businesses. It’s important to follow speed limits and signs, and stay alert, including during evenings and weekends. Traffic changes, construction crews, equipment, and work areas near the roadway will require extra attention from road users.

The official detour for through traffic uses Duluth St (County Rd 66), Hwy 100, and Hwy 55. There are alternative routes for local traffic, including Winnetka Ave (County Rd 156), Medicine Lake Rd (County Rd 70), and the completed segments of Douglas Dr.
