Parks and Recreation’s Camp Valley, an action-packed week of activities, including swimming, archery, capture the flag, puppet shows, obstacle courses, rock wall climbing, birdhouse building, team challenges, pancake cookouts and other outdoor experiences, drew 16 participants, ages 7-12, for its inaugural run. This past week, crews completed final paving on Douglas Dr (County Rd 102) between Medicine Lake Rd (County Rd 70) and Duluth St (County Rd 66). They will now focus on rebuilding Douglas Dr between Duluth St and Golden Valley Rd, beginning roundabout construction at the Golden Valley Rd intersection, and starting reconstruction between Frontage Rd and Hwy 55. Artwork for the City’s new street banners in downtown Golden Valley is now available for a 30-day public review and comment period. The banners will replace the old, damaged ones that line a few streets near City Hall campus. Read More

This year’s book selection for the second annual Golden Valley Reads program is “The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir,” by award-winning Hmong-American writer Kao Kalia Yang. Golden Valley residents are invited attend free book-themed events in August and September.

Due to inclement weather, the Public Safety In The Parks program scheduled for Aug 3 at Scheid Park has been canceled.

The movie “Sing” will be shown at Brookview Park Friday, Aug 11, at 8:30 pm. It was originally scheduled for this Thursday, Aug 3, but it has been postponed due to weather forecasts. Read More

Starting Aug 1, Golden Valley residents interested in becoming City policy makers can file to run for City Council in this year’s Nov 7 municipal election. Voters will elect two Council Members (four-year terms). Read More

You’re invited to attend an informal conversation session Mon, Aug 7, followed by presentations, discussion, and the Planning Commission meeting. The open house will be from 6-6:30 pm at the City Hall Council Chambers and will focus on the parks and nature areas section of the City’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan. Read More
