Douglas Drive Access To Close At Hwy 55 Intersection Sept 29, While Golden Valley Rd Intersection Reopens
Starting Friday, Sept 29, Douglas Dr (County Rd 102) access to and from Hwy 55 will close until November as crews will begin reconstructing Douglas Dr between Frontage Rd and Hwy 55, but Golden Valley Rd at Douglas Dr will reopen to traffic.
Work between Frontage Rd and Hwy 55 will include replacing underground utility lines, rebuilding the roadway, and reconstructing the Frontage Rd entrance and intersection. The schedule is subject to change due to weather. Businesses south of Golden Valley Rd can be accessed using Hwy 55, Winnetka Ave (County Rd 156) and Golden Valley Rd.
Duluth St To Golden Valley Rd
Last week, railroad crews finished reconstructing the railroad crossing just north of Olympia St. At the same time, shared bicycle and pedestrian trails were paved along the northbound lanes of Douglas Dr between Duluth St (County Rd 66) and Golden Valley Rd, and crews began pouring sidewalks along southbound lanes.
Throughout the next week, crews will finish pouring sidewalks and begin streetscape work throughout the area. Local access remains open as crews continue to work in the area. For everyone’s safety, please slow down and exercise caution when driving through the area.
Golden Valley Rd Intersection To Frontage Rd
Over the last few weeks, crews made significant progress shaping the new road between the Golden Valley Rd intersection and Frontage Rd. The roadway was graded, and new curbs and gutters were poured in anticipation for paving.
On Monday, Sept 25, the first two layers of asphalt will be paved along the east and westbound lanes of Golden Valley Rd between Florida Ave and the Union Pacific railroad underpass. In addition, crews will pave between the Golden Valley Rd roundabout and Frontage Rd. Weather permitting, paving is expected to take up to four days. Once completed, east and westbound Golden Valley Rd will open to traffic.
Country Club Dr
Next week, crews are expected to begin pouring curbs and gutters to shape the new cul-de-sac and the entry and access points at the eastern end of the street. Once the concrete work is completed, paving and striping will follow. Weather permitting, the entry and access points to and from Hwy 55 will open by the second week of October.
Work Zone Road Conditions
Please remember, throughout the work zone crews have removed pavement and are working with dirt. This means the roads will be more challenging to drive through. While we continue to try to keep things drivable, weather – especially heavy rains – can create challenges. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. If you have questions or concerns regarding the road conditions, please contact the project hotline at 612-543-3485.
Getting Around And Staying Safe
You can still travel around this area, including to get to local businesses. It’s important to follow speed limits and signs, and stay alert, including during evenings and weekends. Traffic changes, construction crews, equipment, and work areas near the roadway will require extra attention from road users.
The official detour for through traffic uses Duluth St (County Rd 66), Hwy 100, and Hwy 55. There are alternative routes for local traffic, including Winnetka Ave (County Rd 156), Medicine Lake Rd (County Rd 70), and the completed segments of Douglas Dr.
