Work On Douglas Dr Nears Completion As Crews Begin Final Paving
November 9, 2017
For the next week, crews will be paving the final layer of asphalt, or wear course, throughout the Douglas Dr (County Rd 102) corridor. Final paving is one of the last steps of the reconstruction process prior to reopening the roadway.
While it doesn’t mean all of the work is complete, people will be able to drive on and use the newly reconstructed Douglas Dr between Medicine Lake Rd (County Rd 70) and Hwy 55. All work is weather permitting.
Earlier this week, the final layer of asphalt was paved on Douglas Dr between Knoll St and Golden Valley Rd.
The new Douglas Dr has a shared bicycle and pedestrian trail, in addition to new sidewalks. It also features an integrated curb and bicycle lane, which will provide a durable, high-traction surface for people using Douglas Dr for biking.
Crews also began paving on Douglas Dr between Frontage Rd and Hwy 55. This work, which will include the final layer of asphalt, is expected to be completed Monday, Nov 13.
When Douglas Dr reopens to traffic, the Frontage Rd intersection immediately north of Hwy 55 will temporarily turn into a four-way stop until the traffic signals are installed in December.
Country Club Dr
The east end of Country Club Dr will be paved in the next few days as well. This segment of road, including the new entry and exit access points, will reopen to traffic on Monday, Nov 13.
Golden Valley Rd
To cap off paving work for 2017, crews will pave the final layer of asphalt on Golden Valley Rd between Florida Ave and the Union Pacific railroad underpass starting Tuesday, Nov 14. This segment of road will need to close in order for crews to complete the work. Paving is expected to take up to two days, and the road will reopen to traffic upon completion.
During the closure, through traffic should use the official detour (Hwy 55, Hwy 100 and Duluth St). Local traffic should follow the signed alternate routes.
Due to the nature of this work and the weather, the exact start and finish dates may vary.
Temporary Striping To Follow
Once paving work is completed, crews will paint temporary stripes on Douglas Dr between Knoll St and Hwy 55. Temporary striping will be completed under traffic and is expected to take up to two days to complete.
During this work, you will be able to travel through the corridor. However, it is important to stay alert in this area, following all posted speed limits and signs. Construction crews, equipment and work areas near the roadway will require extra attention from people using the road.
The official detour for through traffic uses Duluth St (County Rd 66), Hwy 100, and Hwy 55. There are alternative routes for local traffic, including Winnetka Ave (County Rd 156), Medicine Lake Rd (County Rd 70), and the completed segments of Douglas Dr.
