Golden Valley Rd Bridge On Schedule To Reopen Aug 31

Work on the Golden Valley Rd (County Rd 66) bridge project continues on schedule and, if all goes according to plan, the bridge will reopen Friday, Aug 31.

Starting Tuesday morning, Aug 28, crews will pave the new road surface on the bridge. Weather permitting, paving will be completed by Thursday evening, Aug 30. Crews will place temporary striping on the road before opening the bridge Aug 31.

Last week, crews constructed the concrete walls and installed new ornamental railings on the bridge. They also installed riprap along both sides of the bridge (riprap is comprised of large rocks intended to protect shorelines and slopes from erosion).

Yesterday, crews finished pouring sidewalks, followed by curbs and gutters. Concrete will need to cure for at least two days to harden before beginning other construction activities nearby. Crews anticipate starting landscaping work yet this week.

Construction Activities Will Continue After Bridge Reopens

Even after the bridge reopens to traffic, crews will work in the area for an additional month to complete final construction tasks, including landscaping, paving the final layer of asphalt, and final cleanup. These activities will have minor impacts to traffic; however, it’s still important that people driving, walking, biking, and rolling slow down and avoid where crews are working for everyone’s safety.
