Restore The Vote Discussion To Be Held Sept 13

Jana Kooren and Eli Darris of the American Civil Liberties Union Minnesota chapter (ACLU-MN) will be leading a discussion at Golden Valley City Hall Sept 13 on the issue of restoring the right to vote for Minnesotans convicted of felonies.

Kooren has a dual degree in social justice and French from Hamline University. She worked in Las Vegas and St Paul in the social service sector before coming to the ACLU-MN in June 2006. She is currently the Public Education & Communications Director for the ACLU Minnesota chapter, focusing on issues such as restoration of voting rights for those who served their time in prison.

Darris was sentenced to natural life in prison as a juvenile and violently struggled for years in adult facilities. He fought to turn his life around and, upon his release, became a business owner, consultant, educator, IT specialist, and motivational speaker. Darris is now Lead Consultant with the Darris Consulting Group, which aims to inspire hope and spark dialogue centered on the power of individuals to effect change in their world.

Sponsored by the Golden Valley Human Rights Commission (HRC), the New Hope Human Rights Commission, and the League of Women Voters-Golden Valley, the discussion will be held Sept 13, 6:30-7:30 pm, in the Golden Valley City Council Chambers. All are welcome to attend.
