“Look, Listen, Learn,” Says The GVFD

Fire Prevention Week is Oct 7-13, and the Golden Valley Fire Department (GVFD) will be educating the community about fire prevention and overall fire safety by visiting schools, businesses, and other organizations. This year the GVFD is using the National Fire Prevention Association’s (NFPA) “Look, Listen, Learn” campaign to break down fire safety into three basic but essential steps.

1. Look

Look for places a fire could start. Identify potential fire hazards and take care of them.

2. Listen

Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm. When it beeps, you may only have minutes to escape and go to your outside meeting space.

3. Learn

Learn two ways out of every room in case you need to escape. Make sure all doors and windows open easily and are free of clutter.

Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of Oct 9, in commemoration of the deadly Great Chicago Fire.
