Three Ways To Help Your Community This Holiday Season

As the holiday season approaches, many often think of ways to give back to their community. This year the City of Golden Valley offers multiple holiday outreach programs to help community members in need.

Be A Santa To A Senior

To participate, go to the Golden Valley Starbucks (7802 Olson Memorial Hwy), pick a bulb from the tree, and bring back the requested gift before Dec 10. The gifts will be delivered Dec 22 by the Golden Valley Fire Family, a group of firefighters and their families.

For more information about Be A Santa To A Senior, contact the Golden Valley Fire Department at 763-593-8057.

Toys For Tots

The Golden Valley Police Department’s Toys For Tots collection is an annual tradition in collaboration with police from multiple departments. On the last collection day, they all meet in Golden Valley, load their cruisers with donated gifts, and parade to the KARE 11 drop-off site.

To donate, bring new, unwrapped toys to the GVPD at 7700 Golden Valley Rd (open 24/7) Dec 1–14 (last day by 3 pm). The GVPD cannot accept monetary donations. For more information, contact Commander Steve Johnson at 763-512-2502.

Shop With A Cop

Shop With A Cop provides children in need with Target gift cards to be used for family gifts during the holiday season.

This year children will spend the evening of Dec 10 shopping with officers and other GVPD staff. The group will then head back to the Police Department for a pizza party gift-wrapping! To donate before Dec 10, contact Police Chief Jason Sturgis at 763-593-8059.
