City Takes Another Step Towards Eco-Friendliness
Last October, the City of Golden Valley added to its arsenal of eco-friendly initiatives with the installation of City Hall’s first electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
Located in the west parking lot near the water tower, the ChargePoint station is part of the world’s largest and most open EV charging network, with more than 50,000 charging stations worldwide and more than 300 in the Minneapolis area.
Charging at a ChargePoint station is similar to pumping at a gas station, except payment is done through a mobile app or the ChargePoint card. Users are charged 90 cents per hour for the first three hours and $1.20 per hour after that.
Meeting Green Initiatives
One goal of the City’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan is to plan for a resilient and sustainable infrastructure. This includes objectives such as
- lowering city-wide transportation related emissions
- encouraging and installing alternative fueling stations and electric charging stations
- supporting infrastructure at commercial sites, office sites, and parking ramps.
With this new EV charger, City staff believe this will provide a good starting point in achieving these objectives.
