Portion Of South I-394 Frontage Road To Close May 20 For CenterPoint Energy’s Belt Line Project

Wayzata Blvd south of I-394, from the west side of Texas Ave to just east of Pennsylvania Ave, will be closed to through traffic the week of May 20 as part of CenterPoint Energy’s 2019 Belt Line Project. Detour routes will be posted on site the week of May 13.

The closure will last for approximately four weeks, reopen temporarily, and close again for approximately two more weeks. During this time, drivers can access residences and businesses.

During the week of May 27, crews will bore the natural gas main under I-394.

The Belt Line Project is replacing an existing natural gas pipeline in Golden Valley and St Louis Park. In Golden Valley, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, will work in the area of (see map):

  • Winnetka Ave S
  • Western Ave
  • Ewald Terrace
  • Sumter Ave
  • Wayzata Blvd
  • Pennsylvania Ave S

Lane restrictions will be anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. If any closures are necessary, they will be minimized. Local access will be maintained.

This project is a continuation of CenterPoint Energy’s Belt Line project in Minnesota, which began in 2012 and will continue until approximately 2022. The Belt Line system is a series of natural gas distribution mains along routes from Brooklyn Center to Bloomington and from Golden Valley to Minneapolis.
